Welmoet van Kammen

Princeton, NJ

I came to this country because I wanted to get an education in America and then I stayed. I am nothing special – just a regular immigrant born in the Netherlands. Immigration issues are very much in the forefront of my life. I help immigrants with and without legal residence status with their taxes each year. The ”Dear America” book was an inspiration to read and underscored for me again and again my own experiences how little Americans, who are born here, know and or care about immigrant issues. I live in Princeton NJ and am surrounded by a highly educated population but I still have to explain over and over what a Tax Identification Number is or that immigrants pay taxes like everybody else.

Let's Talk

It's time for a new conversation about immigration in America, and it starts with us.
