I am a granddaughter of immigrants from Europe, mainly Germany. My great grandmother escaped from WWII with her daughter, my Omi, to later marry an American soldier and move to America. Other ancestors moved to be missionaries to the German-speaking immigrants living in America. Although I have always dreamed of moving here from a different country, I cannot even begin to fathom the horror of having opportunity at your fingertips, and yet not being allowed to grasp it. I believe our immigration policies need to change, though I am still discovering what could make the best difference for everybody. One thing I do know is: aren’t we all immigrants?
