Defining an American to me means white. I am considered African american, even though I was born here in america. So I feel that that definition alone excludes from the title of American. I am a mother, with a husband who works and allows me to stay home. He happens to be White. We are not noticed together. yet, he is considered an American. We are a Jewish Family. I have a mixed race daughter and she is also not considered to be an american. she is considered African American and she was born in San Francsico. My daughter and I are not “americans” I converted to Judiasm before meeting and marrying my husband. American means white. I think unless this country and it inhabitants learn to be uncomfortable with our history in the treatment of our populations of minorities. I will never get to be just “american”
