I moved here legally as a child with my parents and sister but as time moved on my application to stay here fell through cracks in the immigration system. Now that my entire family is here as lawful permanent residents, I have been struggling for the past 8 years, jumping from one visa status to another to be able to stay here with my family. Every year I face not knowing whether I will be here the next year. This has impacted my education, my career, any job opportunities and any long term relationships I may have had. After 8 years, I am running out of options that will help me stay here with my family in the only place I call home. I sympathize with those that have struggled to build a life here against all odds. To define an American would be to tell the story of somebody who fought through all obstacles and barriers to be successful. It would define a person who is positive, resilient in the face of a challenge and above all diligent and hard working.
