Rosendo Medina

Palmdale, CA

Hey my name is Rosendo from Mexico… Matamoros, Tamaulipas (border of Texas). Moved to Van Nuys, California when I was 5 years old, right on time for Kindergarden. Spanish was considered my first language but after 4th grade they didn’t require me to take the test anymore. I moved to a desert, good ‘ol Palmdale, California. Continued to middle school while playing soccer as my favorite hobby. I wax enrolled in honors classes in middle school. School was my 2nd favorite hobby I guess. High school came along and I was striving. I passed every class in high school and graduated in gold with a 3.5 GPA as an Engineering Academy Member from Pete Knight High School. Thanks to those engineering classes in high school like Calculus, Physics, chemistry etc I am taking courses at Antelope Valley Community College pursuing to transfer and major on Civil Engineering.

I am committed to stay in school. I love school and praise the United States for free education and no child left behind. My father always told me to stay in school so you won’t have to work in the sun like he does. He is a construction worker for different companies in California. Barely being able to speak and understand English he does anything to get us by. My father and I are a team and I want to finish school and get a job in an office (as he says) and say we did it.

We are Americans, we pay taxes we want to be like everyone else. I love this country but disliked that were we marked as illegal aliens. I couldn’t go play with my soccer team at a tournament in San Diego cause Immigration Patrol, I couldn’t transfer to a university because my dad couldn’t afford it. Now I am a full time student and worker. My father has been working in the U.S. for 19 years and I am 19 years old. He came to this country for hope of a better life for his family and he’s been supporting us never giving up.

I will never give up on my dream of graduating from a university so I can tell my pops we did it.

Let's Talk

It's time for a new conversation about immigration in America, and it starts with us.
