My best friend is an undocumented immigrant. She believes in working hard and taking care of herself and her family. She believes in God. She loves her neighbors and helps those less fortunate than she is, even though she is struggling to get by herself. She believes in protecting the earth and living frugally. She helps me appreciate the many blessings and opportunities that I sometimes take for granted because I was born in this country.

In the four years that we have been friends, she has taught me about myself, friendship, sacrifice, family, cultural differences and human nature, and she has brought joy into my life and the lives of many other people in our community. She pays taxes, even though it puts her at risk of being caught and deported. She doesn’t want any handouts – she just wants a chance to work towards a better life for herself and her family. You know, the values that this country was founded on… American values.

Let's Talk

It's time for a new conversation about immigration in America, and it starts with us.
