I came from China to US as a graduate student. After receiving my PhD degree in Computer Science, I started working as a professional engineer on H1B visa last year. Because of the 7% per-country cap in the current immigration law, the waiting time for Chinese and Indians in the profession immigration category is no sooner than 5-8 years, which significantly discourages their enthusiasm for innovation and creativity.

Many of them are stuck with boring and unchallenging jobs which are even wasting their talents and knowledge they obtained though years. Some of them went back to their home country with the knowledge and skills gained here. It is a big loss for US considering nowadays they are the majority of the top engineering schools in US.

As an immigrant country, America is supposed to welcome everyone with ambition, talent and skills, no matter they are scientists, engineers, farmers or entrepreneurs. As long as they could contribute with their special skills and significantly benefit the overall strength of this country, they deserve to be treated fairly. We believe this is the land without discrimination and this is the land to melt your ambition and dreams in the prosperity of the country’s future. That is why we came here. The world is changing so fast. Immigration law needs to catch up.
