I was born in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico, 45 years ago. I came illegally to this country following my husband and with a daughter in my arms 25 years ago. My daughter was illegal as well, my husband wasn’t.

25 years later I have six kids, my oldest daughter graduated from Mills College in Oakland, CA. My second and third daughters are currently attending NAU. My third daughter is a junior at North Canyon High School is concurrently enrolled in beauty school, she will get her HS diploma and her credentials at the same time. My 13 year old twins (a boy and a girl) are currently taking honors classes in middle school, my daughter had straight As last year and was inducted in NJHS this year.

For the first 12 years of my stay in this country I was illegal. I never used food stamps or went on welfare. There were times when in this rich country I did not have food for my daughter or myself. But I believe in working hard, on earning what you get. For the last 9 years I was an Officer for the Arizona Department of Corrections, recently I took a promotion and I am out of uniform. A success story I believe, for an illegal immigrant that came to this country without speaking the language but with a string desire to make my dreams come true.

I am not a criminal, my kids are not criminals. We are Americans, And now I am legal.

Let's Talk

It's time for a new conversation about immigration in America, and it starts with us.
