American is being able to melt in the melting pot whether you were born in it or came to it. I am a second generation Mexican American but I feel more American. There are many ways to cook a chicken and every ethnic group has its own way of going about it with their own spice. American means you get to share that spice cabinet while having your own or perhaps not. That spice may be the way you celebrate, they way you grieve, they way you express yourself. That spice is an ineffable swagger that comes from within the collective culture of a likened population living together.
