I was brought to this country from Mexico at eight years old with my parents seeking a better life of opportunity for myself and my 3 brothers and sister. Almost 20 years later, I have been blessed enough to be able to complete a Bachelors degree, begin a career, own a house… despite my undocumented status – the “American dream” right? I married my husband for all the right reasons – Love -, we both are undocumented and are trying to do EVERYTHING we can to follow our dreams and feel this country as very much our own, even though so many people feel otherwise. We pay taxes, we are law abiding citizens, we contribute to the economy and we want to have children who ARE US Citizens. I will teach them that everyone is equal despite having or not having certain documentation and that EVERYONE has the right to a brighter future and the right to follow their dreams. As for me, all I hope is that soon enough we will be able to live without the fear that we will one day be returned to a country we barely know.
