The father of my son was deported a week after our child was born. I love him more than any man I’ve ever met in my life.

His crime? Getting a flat tire. Yes, he was here without documents but he was here to try and make a better life. And if people actually knew anything about how challenging the immigration process is, when living in poverty every day and just hoping for an opportunity to for a better life when they’re still young, it is an understandable risk to take- coming here without papers.

He is a good man who now can’t see our child grow up even though we tried to get him here legally. Navigating the immigration system is confusing and expensive- even for me an educated person with English as a first language. I cannot imagine how daunting all of the paperwork and expenses are for the average working person in Central and South America.

Let's Talk

It's time for a new conversation about immigration in America, and it starts with us.
