Bertha Avila

Marysville, CA

My name is Bertha and my parents immigrated our whole family when I was only 5 years old in 1964. I am now 52 years of age and love this country as though it was my birth country. I did not know that I was an immigrant until I was a teenager. Having grown up and assimilated the american life, I believed that I was an American in light of my dark skin. An opportunity was given to my family and I. But I do not forget that I am Hispanic by birth and my heart bleeds every time I see and hear the unjustice that is commited against those that are illegal. I believe “One Nation under God” includes everyone regardles of nationality or legal status.

Let's Talk

It's time for a new conversation about immigration in America, and it starts with us.
