My name is Beverly Chemai and I’m a 21 year old DREAMer from Kenya. I came to the U.S. when I was three or four because my dad was transferred to D.C. I have lived happily here in Maryland ever since, though my dad got transferred back to Kenya when I was six. My mother decided that my older brother and I should complete school in the United States because we were already adjusted to the American School system. Through a lot of immigration stuff that I frankly don’t understand I am the only person in my family without papers. I got DACAmented about a year and a half ago and started working in a daycare center in preparation for working with children later in life somewhere in the psychology field. DACA has given me, and every other DREAMer amazing opportunities we didn’t have as little as four years ago, but it’s still not enough. America needs comprehensive immigration reform and soon.
