What makes for a "good immigrant"?

The pressure to be a good citizen when you aren’t one. An #EmergingUS production.

In this election cycle, immigrants have been discussed in black and white terms — the “legal” v. “illegal,” the “right people” v. the “wrong people,” the “good immigrant” v. the “bad immigrant.” For the most part, the political discourse rarely paints immigrants as the complex human beings that they are. Taking quotes directly from Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, we asked immigrants of varied backgrounds to reflect on these categorizations, and to define for themselves what they think it means to be a “good immigrant.”

This video is a first in a series of deconstructions in which #EmergingUS unpacks a tired trope firsthand.
