The Define American team extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Define American cofounder and board cochair Jake Brewer, who was tragically killed during a charity bicycle ride in Maryland on September 19th.
Brewer, 34, was a tireless champion of human rights and played an essential role in the creation and ongoing success of Define American, including coming up with the organization’s name. In addition to lending his tremendous professional expertise and irreplaceable insight to the organization, Brewer currently worked at the White House in the Office of Science and Technology Policy.
Brewer was a mentor and friend to the entire Define American team, and a close personal friend of founder Jose Antonio Vargas. Mourning for Brewer goes far beyond the confines of one organization, as his passion and talent were invaluable to all who were lucky enough to call him a friend or colleague.
Define American will post updates on services for Brewer and how best to support his family. At this time, we ask that their privacy is respected as they grieve this immense loss.
