Define American Chapter Leader’s Win Marks Change In Rhodes Scholar Rules

The Rhodes Scholarship Is Now Open To All Students With DACA

Boston – Today Jin Park, a Harvard-educated undocumented American and Define American Chapter Program leader, is the first-ever  graduate who is a Dreamer to win a Rhodes Scholarship. Define American supported Jin’s application in order to establish new rules at The Rhodes Trust, which will now allow any applicants who are “citizen of the United States OR a lawful permanent resident of the United States OR a U.S. resident with DACA status on April 15 in the year of application.”  Jin came to the United States with his family from South Korea. Julián Gustavo Gómez, Define American’s Campus Engagement Manager, released the following video statement:

“Congratulations to Jin Park on becoming a Rhodes Scholar, an incredible achievement on its own, but also as the first DACA recipient to become a Rhodes Scholar it also marks an important moment for all undocumented youth known as DREAMers. Define American is so incredibly proud to count a Rhodes Scholar as one of our Define American Chapter Leaders. We really hope that this inspires more DREAMers to fight for educational access for all regardless of status.”   – Julián Gustavo Gómez, Campus Engagement Manager
